Cast crew training

Abigail and Mikela, the two sisters who manage Divemed, bring a wealth of expertise and experience to the company’s operations. In addition to their skills in underwater filming, they are also experts in the process of teaching scuba diving and training performers in the skills needed to perform underwater scenes and stunts. Their knowledge of scuba diving techniques and safety protocols enables them to train performers in the proper use of equipment and techniques necessary to perform safely and effectively underwater. This includes skills such as underwater breathing techniques, buoyancy control, and underwater communication.

01

Scuba training

For scenes that require actors to use scuba equipment and dive like a professional, it’s important to ensure that the crew and actors are properly trained and have the necessary certifications to perform the required diving activities safely.

We have assisted countless actors with their diving training prior to filming scenes that involve underwater activities. This helps them develop the necessary skills, knowledge and confidence to perform the required diving activities safely and in an effective manner.

Additionally, our team of instructors are well versed in the specific ways to approach dive training for filming and carry through by being present for the actors even on the day of the shoot.

02

Skill set tuning

In our complex and demanding industry, it is often required that actors perform in challenging and unconventional settings, even in terms of underwater shoots, where filming can be especially challenging. In order to achieve the desired level of performance, actors may need specialized training beyond that offered in the recreational diving offered in the market.

Our team of experts is experienced in helping actors achieve this level of skill, through specialised training that focuses on breath control, buoyancy, and other critical aspects of underwater performance coaching actors to develop the necessary skills to deliver compelling and authentic performances in even the most challenging underwater filming scenarios.

03

Breath-hold technique

Often underwater shoots come across the need for actors to hold their breath for extended periods of time in order to execute certain scenes. Our team includes freediving instructors experienced in working with actors to help them develop the necessary skills to hold their breath for extended periods, while maintaining their performance level.

Through specialised training that focuses on breath control, relaxation techniques, and other critical aspects of breath-holding, we can help actors achieve the necessary level of proficiency to deliver convincing and impactful performances. With our guidance and support, actors can confidently tackle even the most demanding breath-holding sequences, ensuring that their performances are both authentic and effective on screen.

04

Full-face Mask training

The use of full face masks is often a preference for underwater shoots. This requires specific training and preparation to be used effectively and safely. Our dive instructors are experienced in working with actors to help them develop the necessary skills to use full face masks while maintaining their performance level.

With our guidance and support, actors can confidently tackle even the most demanding full-face mask sequences, ensuring they can perform safely and with confidence.

05

Underwater choreography

Specific underwater choreography is a common request by productions. Underwater dream sequences, dancing, mid-water reactions, the list goes on and on. Nothing is too unusual and much can be achieved with a dose of a very specific plan, an excellent team of safety divers and most importantly adequate training.
